THE HOLIDAYS ARE FINALLY OVER! LET’S GET BACK IN SHAPE

The holiday season can be tough for everyone, even if you don’t have an Italian grandmother who tries to make you explode, mouthful after mouthful. Now that January is here, no more excuses. Let’s get back to a healthy routine.

 

“STO ESPLODENDO”

Americans, you are lucky because your holiday season is over on January 2nd and after a month of running to buy the presents for Christmas, blowouts every day around the table at lunch and dinner, forced to spend hours of conversation with relatives, you can now go back to your normal life. In Italy we have four more days of craziness. Our holiday season, indeed, finishes with the Epiphany, which is celebrated on the 6th of January. To make matters worse (never for children) we love to spend this particular day giving chocolate to everybody: kids, loved ones, parents, relatives and friends. That is the moment when Italians have more sugar than blood in their body. The sentence that we say the most after every holiday meal is: “sto esplodendo, ora inizio a rotolare,” I am exploding, now I start to roll over!

 

JANUARY, DETOX IS THE KEY WORD

Italian or not, we all need to detox after a month of “too much.” We are sure that even if not everybody has an Italian grandma who forces you to eat, it happens to everyone to overdo it around the table. So, now that January has begun we no longer have an excuse, our body is begging for it: detox! It’s not just a matter of how you look, you can put on a few pounds, but this is not this the point. After eating a lot of fat and sugar, we feel heavy inside, because we are heavy.

 

SOME TRICKS TO GET BACK IN SHAPE EASILY

In order to get back on track, we need to follow a few simple tricks. So please, everybody stop fasting. First step, let’s think more about what we eat. Let’s start from the morning with some hot water and lemon, it is purifying. You should cut bad sugar for a while, so no cookies or sodas. You need energy?  Lunch Fora little bowl of pasta can help; but make it home, season it with veggies and raw oil. If you want to eat meat, ok, but choose the white one, with less fat possible. During the break, eat a lot of fruit and drink water of course. If you feel hungry before dinner, you can drink different kind of herbal tea. And, after a month of sedentary life, remember to move.
