According to a recent survey, Italian is the most popular cuisine in the world.

When it comes to food, Italians fight hard. That’s why we are proud to announce that our cuisine is the most popular in the world. The results come from an international study conducted by market research firm YouGov. A sample of 25,000 people in 24 markets awarded to Italy the first prize, with an average popularity score of 84%. Chinese food came in second, and and Japanese took third place.

HOW CAN YOU BEAT PIZZA AND PASTA?

We don’t need a survey to know that pizza and pasta are among the most beloved dishes around the world. Everyone — from kids to the elderly — loves pizza. It satisfies every taste: it can be simple, with just mozzarella and tomato sauce, or full of toppings such as veggies or prosciutto. The same applies to pasta, which can be topped with marinara sauce, white wine with frutti di mare (shrimp and mussels), or with the famous meat ragù. 

ITALIAN FOOD, COMBINING FLAVOR AND CULTURE

Of course, there are many culinary tradition around the world that are to die for, but Italian food is unique. It’s not just about how the dishes taste, but also about the culture and history that surrounds them. With little effort, you can prepare un piatto di pasta at home, and it’s certainly quicker and simpler than experimenting with Thai or Chinese food. Italian dishes can be also very cheap: it’s possible to create an amazing meal with very little money. 

THE US LOVES AMERICAN FOOD FIRST, ITALIAN FOOD SECOND

Of course, the country that most loves Italian food is Italy: 99% of Italian interviewees ranked their native cuisine in first place. The Spanish and the French are also Italian food aficionados, while, according to YouGov, the Chinese are not such huge fans.

Peruvian and Finnish cuisines sit at the bottom of the ranking. People from the United States  seem to love “American Food” the most, with Italian coming in as a close second. The United States has a bit of Italian culture in every corner of the country.
